IOI-Canada is a leading member of the worldwide network of operational centres and focal points which constitute the International Ocean Institute (IOI). It has been based at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, since being founded by Elisabeth Mann Borgese in 1979.  Our mission is to promote responsible ocean governance and the stewardship and sustainable use of coastal and ocean resources in Canada and around the world.  Please explore this website to learn more about our activities, particularly the main events currently planned for 2012:
