2025 Online Ocean Governance Course: Participants
The participant list for this year's
online course is currently being finalised but we are on track to
register at least 130 individuals from approximately 40 countries. The
live
class for synchronous participation is capped at 30 to ensure a
suitable size
for discussion and exchange of views. The remaining 100 participants
are
doing the course in their own time via the self-paced study stream.
Virtually all
applicants have at least one degree, many two or three, and women
constitute the
majority.
As with IOI-Canada’s in-person training programmes, these participants
are splendidly varied. Drawn from a variety of backgrounds, they are
mainly marine professionals with a broad range
of education and work experience in, inter alia, academia,
government, NGOs and the private sector in areas such
as fisheries, aquaculture, biology, oceanography, marine ecology,
geomorphology, engineering, data analysis, science-policy interface,
environmental
management and policy, ocean monitoring, marine mammals, biodiversity,
climate change, conservation,
ocean activism, coastal resource management, oil, plastics, law,
policy, blue economy,
international relations, diplomacy, Indigenous governance, navy,
maritime security, coast guard,
maritime administration and safety.
Geographically, they represent many parts of the world
including Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, the
Middle East, North
and South America, and the South Pacific. More specifically,
participants have registered
from:
Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba/Netherlands, Australia, Bahamas,
Bangladesh, Barbados, Brazil,
Cameroon, Canada, Cape Verde, Cook Islands, Ecuador, Fiji, Ghana,
India,
Indonesia, Italy, Kenya, Kiribati, Lebanon, Madagascar, Mozambique,
Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Solomon Islands,
Somalia, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, St Lucia, Tanzania, Thailand,
Togo, Trinidad & Tobago, Tunisia and Turkiye. |
