• 15^th May, 2010: Deadline for submission of student papers for the Ocean Yearbook 2010 Student Prize (subject to confirmation). Further information is available on the Ocean Yearbook website.


• 31^st March, 2010: Deadline for submission of papers for Volume 25 of Ocean Yearbook (subject to confirmation). For details of the Call for Papers and the Authors' Guidelines, and for online Tables of Contents for earlier volumes, check the Ocean Yearbook website.


• 14^th February, 2010: Deadline for Danielle de St Jorre Scholarship (subject to confirmation). For more details of this award, which is open to women from Small Island Developing States and is worth 10,000 Swiss francs, check the relevant section of the IOI Headquarters website and/or contact them at ioihq@ioihq.org.mt.


• 31^st January, 2010: Deadline for applications for IOI-Canada's 30th Anniversary course on Ocean Governance: Policy, Law and Management, provisionally scheduled for 19^th May - 16^th July, 2010. Please consult the training section of this site for further information and an application form.


• 8^th June, 2009: Fifth annual Elisabeth Mann Borgese Ocean Lecture held in Halifax, as part of World Oceans Day celebrations. Dr Rob Huebert, Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Calgary and Associate Director of its Centre for Military and Strategic Studies, spoke on Canada and the Circumpolar World: the Coming Blizzard. • 20^th May - 17^th July, 2009: IOI Training Programme on Ocean Governance: Policy, Law and Management conducted at Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada. Check the 2009 Course Website for details.


• March 2009: Publication of Kathy Mac's The Hundefraulein Papers, a collection of poems based on the author's experience as Elisabeth Mann Borgese's dog-sitter. Details are available on the publisher's website.
• 26^th April, 2008: IOI-Canada alumnus becomes Executive Director of the International Ocean Institute. See the relevant edition of IOInforma for details of Dr Cherdsak Virapat's appointment.
